Groove music app not workingPersonally I'd be overjoyed as I uninstall Groove regularly as a matter of preference. But my suggestion would be try to reinstall Groove using Power Shell thusly:Step 1: Close Groove Music, if it’s running.Step 2: Open PowerShell with admin rights. To do so, type PowerShell in Start menu or taskbar search box, right-click on PowerShell tab in the pop up menu and then click Run as administrator option.Step 3: copy and paste the following command get-appxpackage.Microsoft.ZuneMusic. remove-appxpackageand press ENTERStep 3b CLOSE POWER SHELLStep 4 Go to Microsoft Store and Download and Install the Groove Music app.Yes, it's free. Groove MusicMy Groove music suddenly stopped playing files when I doubleclick on them (groove music launches but is blank). I can use a different player but I have to click into that player as Groove Music is my default. I am reorganizing all of my music (tens of thousands of files) and this won't work for me.Any suggestions?I have Windows 10 on a PC.I found an online troubleshooting that suggesting I delete temporary files and reset Internet explorer which I did and which has not helped.thank you(I am also not super tech savy so laymen's instructions is appreciated). Since zbox is not working on W10M, I'm giving Groove Music a try but I'm not very happy with how it behaves so far.I store my music in folders with proper id3 tags and with a Cover.jpg representing album art, like. But when I view this album in Groove, I get: the album art is ignored and the album is by 'unknown artist'.Does this mean that I have to go through my 4000+ song collection and add 'album artist' and album art into every song of mine so that they show up correctly in Groove on my phone?Strangely enough, on PC. What system do you use oIf you don't mind saying it.I used to have a messy library (untagged) and realized that it was not going to cut it in the software of the future. Which is id3 based and frankly the best one.So I took a big look at my 26k collection and noticed that I rarely listen to most of this songs.I settled just to have my favorite albums at that time (9k total songs). Then organize those in the following folder system:Music/N/Nirvana/1991-Smells Like Teen Spirit/01 Smells Like Teen Spirit.mp3After that I filled most tags with mp3tag:Artist, album, track numbers, year, composers, album artist, labels, publisher, front cover, back cover, and when it comes to dance music, beats per minute. It took me a months, but now all my songs are compatible with any device (when it comes to info) and future proof. Since most software based music player organizes the library based on the file's tag. I'll second this. I use MP3Tag for the bulk work. I even have scripts in MP3Tag where it'll remove all junk tags, and format things how I want it. Then it gets dropped in artist folders, and imported into musicbee. Music Bee also has a great 'copy to organized folder' feature where it exports albums into artist folders, and then I'll copy that to my SD card for Groove on WP for the albums I want to use on my phone.Album art is always embedded. It's just easier as all players support it, so like someone else said, if it's not Groove, it might be something else that has an issue. Dx12 is an engine? Test ServersThey're nice, the new engine might not fix some problems of the physics but the render and the FPS issues are gone, i can go at 60 FPS while having a nice set of graphics, congrats devs. What do you mean enw engine? Heroes and generals steam. They have made changes to the engine, but there is no new engine (Still usin' ol' Retox). Just embed the artwork and you're done. Music Bee can search the iTunes DB so if it finds it there, you're getting 1200x1200 artwork. Pretty sweet. And yes, album artist needs to be filled in. But I find that helpful. Yes, most albums have the same artist and album artist names, but for compilation albums, set the album artist as one name, and that album will stay grouped together. Otherwise, it'll split up into many separate listings which is a pain. On a related note:I wanted to start using Groove Music but had a question. I have a huge mp3 collection and am very specific about my labeling, file structure and id3 tags and don't like it when apps change them. If I was to use Groove music and add my local music folder to watch, would it change any of those? Would it move files in its own folder system or change or add information to id3 tags? For example I use id3v2 only and make sure id3v1 is deleted, would it automatically copy the info over to the version 1 tag? Also would it change my album covers because I know there is an option for that to fill in album covers if they are incorrect or not present.Any help would be appreciated and I thank you in advance. Hi Dion,Windows automatically update the Apps as soon as it is available, I am yet to discover a way to stop that. However, for proper security, it is necessary for Windows to update the Apps automatically without user intervention. It may not be only the App updates that stop its functionality. It could also be conflicts with other Programs in the system. At present, It seems to be a way of life now with Windows 10.I hope in the next Build of Windows 10 which would be released later this year, Microsoft makes Windows 10 more robust, that the apps don’t break as easily as it does now. I am also working & testing out the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 11102 of Windows 10 that was released to Insiders 2 days ago. According to the Vice President, Engineering Systems Team of Microsoft, Right now, The team is focused on product improvements based on the feedback they received on the November update to Windows 10. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.I would also recommend increasing the maximum disk space used for system protection, so that more restore points get created automatically. Hi Giulliano Kenzo,First, Take a back-up of the Camera App folders from C:Program FilesWindowsApps FolderAlso, Take a screenshot of the camera App folders with the complete version numbers visible.Run the below cmdlet command in PowerShell.Get-AppxPackage.windowscamera.VerboseIt will let us know the currently installed Version of the Camera App and their Dependencies.(and thereby the missing files)You can run PowerShell in Normal mode or Admin Mode. (Take a screenshot )Please send me the screenshots of the results and I will send you the specific missing files. Hi Giulliano Kenzo,It seems that your primary language of Windows is Portuguese. And an additional language – Japanese. Right? From the screenshots, it does not show the Camera App has any missing dependent folders.(Assuming that other Windows Apps are working fine)Step 1Please check if the below 3 folders listed under Dependencies are present in the Windows App folder. Just leaving this to let you know that your instructions led me to the right solution. This was the first procedure I tried, which was successful:0) If a complete version of an app (100, 125, 150, and Arch directories) exists, back up the existing app and use it for Step 31) Remove-AppxPackage on the existing app.a) It was sometimes necessary to create a copy of a split.scale-125 or 150 directory and rename it, so that the removal would completeb) Determining which file needs to exist is easy. However, I have a slightly better solution:1) Do the prior procedure ONLY for the Windows Store app.a) If you open the Windows Store app, it should say that you have apps that need updates.2) Do the steps of the prior procedure to.REMOVE. the apps that need updates. You still need to back up your existing apps.a) Make sure you DELETE all of the existing app directories left behind by the removal process. Again, keep a backup just in case.3) Try the update again in the Windows Store app, and it should succeed.4) If the update fails, you should have your backed-up apps, and should be able to copy the backup of the.latest. app version only, and reinstall it using Add-AppxPackage. Hi Farzad,Somehow I missed your reply.Just noticed it today. Sorry for the delay.I have uploaded the complete WindowsApp Folder. Win 10 Pro X64 Build 10586 – 1511There are 2 download links. Thanks for the guide but I no luck with it.The apps are not working after just copying the missing directories.Even trying to unregister the apps as suggested in 8b doesn’t work. Since I didn’t have those for the specific versions I have installed I just copied the ones you provided a second time and renamed them to match the missing directory, which worked. I was then able to remove the apps, however that also removed the app directory itself, so I had to copy it from another machine and register it again, which eventually worked.Again, thank you for all your help.Best regards,Eran Kutner. Ok, so I managed to get my apps working again. I added All Application Packages to the permissions for the WindowsApps folder and that made things work again however, they are only working on my main profile. No apps work in my other Windows user accounts. Any suggestions? (Yes, I know I could add the individual users, for each account, to the folder’s permissions, but it’s not supposed to work like that: If I add a new user they are supposed to be able to use apps, without having to add permissions.)I still can’t get some of my apps (like Calculator), which weren’t working in the first place, to work. When I try to remove Calculator using PowerShell, it won’t and just throws errors. I was hoping your method would get them working, but it hasn’t helped. Any suggestions are welcome. Hi AzureMicrosoft has made the WindowsApp Folder very secure, that’s the reason we need to take ownership and set permissions to the WindowsApp folder when changes are made to it. It will stop working even if we just make a duplicate copy of a file within the WindowsApp Folder and delete or rename the original. Any change we make to a file inside the WindowsApp folder will cause that corresponding App to stop working. The WindowsApp Folder is common to all user accounts, so if changes are made to it, Then each individual user has to take ownership of the WindowsApp Folder for it to work in their accounts. The same applies when we add a new user, as the WindowsApp Folder ownership is by default with “TrustedInstaller”. For security reasons, Windows would not allow launch of any Apps that is modified, unless we explicitly take ownership. The Apps behavior within the WindowsApp Folder is not consistent across different flavors and versions of Windows 10. However, it seems to get better with subsequent updates. Please send me a screenshot of the Calculator directories within WindowsApp Folder and also screenshots of the PowerShell errors. I may be able to guide you by analyzing the errors. Fernz,Thank you for your detailed post and for the.RAR archives with the missing appx package folders. However, I have a problem specifically with the Microsoft.People app and need the package folder “C:Program FilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.People10.0.10220.0x648wekyb3d8bbwe” and its contents. Would you happen to have that folder? At the moment my Windows 10 64-bit installation thinks that Microsoft.People10.0.10220.0x648wekyb3d8bbwe is installed but it actually isn’t, and I cannot remove it from the Start Menu, and trying to un-install Microsoft People via the GUI or upgrading Microsoft People via the Store does not work (it tells me: “Try that again Something went wrong. The error code is 0x80070003, in case you need it.” ). Hi Fernz,Thanks for the quick reply. Hi Fernz,Thanks for sending me the two missing files and the missing folder and its contents:C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsAppRepositoryMicrosoft.People10.0.10220.0x648wekyb3d8bbwe.xmlC:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsAppRepositoryMicrosoft.People10.0.10220.0neutralsplit.scale-1008wekyb3d8bbwe.xmlC:Program FilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.People10.0.10220.0x648wekyb3d8bbweWith those, I was able to fix the problem easily.I feel this illustrates a flaw in the design of Windows 10. If, for whatever reason, some files are missing (due to, e.g., a failed upgrade or uninstallation) then Windows 10 is:a) incapable of uninstalling the remaining folders, files and Registry entries of the older appx package;b) incapable of upgrading to a newer version of the appx package.I have noticed the same phenomenon with other packages in other user accounts in Windows 10 (the Netflix appx being one example).Anyway, many thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Your blog post is the only one I have found that actually recognises the root cause of the problem. All the other blog posts and articles I found assume that all the files of the package one wishes to remove still exist in one’s installation and that the Remove-AppxPackage command will work. If the files are no longer there, the Remove-AppxPackage command fails.Best Regards,Fitzcarraldo. I’m quite happy that I got my apps back, thanks to the suggestions on this page and extra info from Fernz, however, if I create a new Windows account, there are no apps. I’m guessing if I add the Windows account name to the permissions of the WindowsApps and AppRepository folders then the apps would work the new account as well. I’d probably need to install each with PowerShell, I guess(?)This tells me that Windows has a problem with the permissions with the WindowsApps and/or AppRepository folders. I suppose one way to resolve the issue is to add Everyone to these folders, but then again that’s porbably not good for security(?) It seems there is some extra Windows permission that needs to be set(?)For WindowsApps I have TrustedInstaller and All Application Packages and for AppRepository I have TrustedInstaller (but not All Application Packages) set.Any suggestions?. Hi BillIt seems that there is an older version of the Calculator App that is causing a conflict. It may not be always visible in the WindowsApp Folder. We will first try to use the Remove cmdlet command to uninstall the older version of the Calculator App.Copy and paste the below command in PowerShell Admin mode.Get-AppxPackage.WindowsCalculator. Remove-AppxPackageYou may get errors if any files that are required to successfully uninstall the older version is missing. The resulting error message will lead us onto the next step to follow.(The path to the missing files/folders are in C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsAppRepository and it is usually a.xml file)Let me know the result. Please capture a screenshot and send it to. I followed all your instructions and was able to get everything back up except the Store. After reading all comments I got that up and running too with a bit of fiddling re: folder names. Then unfortunately my windows 10 failed and I had to restore to a previous point so all my hard work at getting them all working has reset to before they worked again ?Anyway, Windows 10 back up but now I’m having difficulty getting all the apps back up. It seems the newest folder names are still in the windows app folder. Removing apps comes up with errors too. Thanks for posting anyway. I’ll keep fiddling. Hi,Thank you Fernz and Kesmy for your solutions/instructions posted on this thread. I was able to re-install the Windows store app, but when I try to open it the splash screen pops up briefly and then closes immediately. Event log is showing “ActivateApplicationForContractByAppIdAsUserWithHost of the app Microsoft.WindowsStore8wekyb3d8bbwe!App for the Windows.Launch contract failed with The system cannot find the file specified.”. All my permissions are set and I’ve checked that the LocalCache folder is empty at appdatalocalpackagesMicrosoft.WindowsStore8wekyb3d8bbwe. This certainly looks like the most up to date and serious fix I’ve come across. My problems started with calculator briefly flashing and disappearing. No error message. Then the start menu stopped working. At least that was the first I noticed. Hi AlexeiSince you have a secondary language “Russian” in your computer. Best weapon mods fallout 4 2018 reddit. I found a problem. I don’t know why, but my WindowsApps folder missed “Microsoft.WindowsStore2016.272.4.0neutral8wekyb3d8bbwe”. I repaired it using your archive “WindowsAppsfolderContents-Win10ProX64-1511-17Feb2016.rar”. After that I reinstalled package using command:—Add-AppxPackage -register “C:/Program Files/WindowsApps/Microsoft.WindowsStore2016.272.4.0neutral8wekyb3d8bbwe/AppxMetadata/AppxBundleManifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode—Now Windows Store works fine. I hope this solution can help someone else. Thank you all!. Hello Fernz,Thank you for your detailed guide to solve missing windows app problem.I was using your guide to fix problem in my machine. This has been the best and most in-depth solution I have found so far and I had such high hopes that it would work. But nothing has changed. I am pretty sure all of the apps Thomas listed above are the non-functional ones for me as well (more than 15), but honestly I only care about getting the Store and Calculator to work for now. I have gone through all of your steps, and I have the same issue as Roshaan Riaz when I try to remove the app packages, where it seems like I am missing a couple files required to uninstall. I can send a screenshot as an example if you wish.I am wondering though, if you have the appropriate WindowsApps folder for my system, if I can just delete the current one and replace it with a new (uncorrupted) one. It is Windows 10 Home, Build 10586, x64. I feel like I have tried so many online solutions that they are probably interfering somehow. For what it’s worth, I tried making another user account and it seems like the problematic files were automatically correctly UNinstalled (would not even show up as “@Microsoft”). Which is strange, but then I could successfully use powershell to reinstall the apps and they work fine. I’d prefer not to have to switch user accounts, but at this point, I’ll do pretty much whatever it takes. It is just frustrating more than anything that so many apps are unresponsive on a computer I’ve had for less than 5 months.Thank you so much!. Hi,I’ve tried this fix and this worked very well. All the default apps started working now,But windows store is still not opening.Even the previous package is missing in the windowsapps folder. Please help me in this issue too.No other fix on the Internet helped me,even the MS community couldn’t help meto fix the metro apps issue. Please help me get through this issue too.VivekApril 19, 2016 at 9:07 amThank you very much for da reply.I’ve made a system restore and tried the fix once again. Now all the apps are working flawlessly. Thanks for your awesome fix ? ?. Hi I have had issues with Microsoft Photos as well as Movies & Videos not updating and working for some time now. The Store opens, it tries to install both updates. It goes thru installing, then restoring user data, then installing comes up again and it abends with error code 0x80073CF6.Nothing I’ve done so far has fixed this issue. Groove Music Stopped WorkingI did go through your steps – I used step 8a to rename the folders. I’ve rebooted but the problem persists. It’s not life or death I suppose, but I did like those two apps. I’ve tried a number of “fixes” that were suggested on Microsoft’s Support site. Their techs were of zero assistance, it was the other users who were offering up solutions. Can you help me figure this out? And if so what do you need to review my problem?. I recently noticed that several apps weren’t opening including the Store App. I tried various fixes with no success and in fact it made it worse in that the app titles didn’t appear properly in the Start Menu.I noticed a windows update seemed stalled and it was for a large upgrade – I believe the November one. I had to jump through several hoops to get that installed (kept getting stuck at 32% – a whole other problem with lots of web resources devoted to it). It did finally installed and all of my app tiles were back however they don’t launch at all now. Previously I would at least get the Store App splash page and then it would close again – now nothing.I got as far as step 8b – I’ve coppied the folders as per step 8 and restarted but the Store app or calculator (amongst others) don’t open. Hi Prof,The folders are updated regularly through Windows App updates and the dependent folders differs from language to language (Example: Multilingual operating systems, Non-English Operating systems) So the only option then available is to modify/rename the missing folders. This hack as of now has been working without any apparent issues. Microsoft in the April update of Windows 10 has fixed issues with the Windows Apps – No more missing Windows App Folders when the PowerShell cmdlet commands are run.Let me know if you need further help / informationYou can email me at. Hi, I have had and solved many of the above issues with the previous version of Win10, to solve most of them i updated to Anniversary edition. A few updates later and People, Mail and calendar, and the search/cortana button. The tile actually vanished. I am not entirely sure what i did but on reboot the store opened and reinstalled the broken apps and they worked again fine even Cortana. Now my issue is that Maps opens then fails/closes. If i reset it using the built in reset button it starts and asks the question can i use your location, i try to click yes but it shuts too quickly. So i went to location tab and lo and behold the toggle switch is greyed out, claiming that without it on Cortana will not work! No amount of removing or reinstalling Maps is working as i believe the issue is with the location toggle being inoperative. I just wanted to run it past you as you have the most useful fixes for the worldwide problems with Apps being broken. The fact i have a symptom similar to others makes me wonder if the unsolveable problems others have are related to location dependencies. I really wish MS would assist then stop forcing bad/broken updates on us. WHAT ON EARTH WIZARDRY, WIZARDRY I TELL YOU.I have to thank you man, I’ve been living with this problem for about a year at this point, no other solutions on the internet worked but this one. I really didn’t want to do a full clean install. Every app that was included in the zip works again! New apps I’m downloading are working fine as well! However, Things in my taskbar still continue to not open (Cortana/searchbar, wifi viewer, action center, and Calendar/time. Thingie xD) I’m just wondering if you know of any solution to that, as they stopped working right when all the apps did. Thanks again for the fix, it feels wonderful to be able to use my computer again!. I’ve found this page thanks to a kind user who left a link on the Microsoft forums. However, even after adjusting permissions and replacing files, I still could not uninstall/reinstall with and instead received the following error:Add-AppxPackage: Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF6, Package could not be registered.error 0x80070003: Reading manifest from location: AppxManifest.xml failed with error: The system cannot find the path specified.Surely I was referencing an existing location for AppxMainfest.xml, so what gives? Hi FernzI know it’s been a while, so you probably won’t notice me, but this seems to be the only place where someone actually knows something on the issue, and I’m completely lost otherwise. So what happened for me is I fullfilled all of the above, and none of the apps actually broke – they’re completely functional. But some of them lost their icons. Examples include Calculator, Shazam, iTunes, Telegram Desktop and the Store itself. The icons are visible in the taskbar, but not in the Start menu. Reinstalling doesn’t help, as doesn’t manual re-registering or removing the apps via PowerShell. I even tried restoring some of them from your archive, but that didn’t lead to anything.People elsewhere seem to have this issue as well, but for some unrelated reason. It apparently can have something to do with Cortana and the default image opening app, but following these steps doesn’t resolve anything. The issue persists for all users. SFC and DISM also don’t do anything. Please give me some advice, at least on where to start digging myself. Hello, Fernz.I still have problems with Windows Store Applications. Now I have latest version of Windows 10 – 1809. I can run WinStore application itself and some other applications (for example, “Edge”, “Groove”), but some applications fault to update, not running and install with error 0x80070005 (for example, “Xbox”, “Microsoft Pay”). I read in Internet that 0x80070005 is an access denied problem. I try to fix it giving permissions for ALL users to WinApps folders, but it don’t help. I have no idea how to fix it.
